Zig Zag at Global Gathering 2005

04 August 2005

Zig Zag Lighting recently supplied lighting to Global Gathering 2005, the UK's biggest dance festival, for the fifth year running. Supplying 8 of the 9 arenas and the VIP area, the build took 4 days using a crew of 24 led by project manager Hadyn Thomas and company owner Neil Hunt.

The highlight of the event was the main arena which had over 100 intelligent fixtures and 44 PixelLine, including 14 of the new 110ec range. Control was supplied by an Avolites Diamond 4 Elite and Radical Lighting's PixelDrive software. LD Matt Holden-Jones was using the PixelDrive system for the first time and said "The dynamics of the software coupled with the brightness and impact of the PixelLine fixtures is amazing." Neil added "PixelDrive puts a completely new dimension on programming LED fixtures of all types. It's a new approach to lighting. We're definately buying it."

Rigging for the main arena was provided by Concert Lights UK, with 13 riggers just for that arena. The rest of the site was rigged by Zig Zag's own crew.

There were over 250 intelligent fixtures across the whole site, with everything from Robe 160XT's to Martin Mac 2000 amongst others. Control was Avolites, apart from the Beach which utilised a Hog 3, supplied by Underworld's LD, Haydn Cruickshank.

Hadyn Thomas said "It was hard work, but worth it all to see look on people's faces when they walked into any of the arenas, especially the GodsKitchen tent. It's the first time I've seen people ignore the act on the stage, but start taking photos of the lighting."
